Findlay Ranked Top Micropolitan Community in the U.S. Fifth Year in a Row

Local Economic Development Projects top the national chart at 23 projects in 2018

(FINDLAY, OH, March 4, 2018) — For the fifth consecutive year, Findlay, Ohio has been ranked the top micropolitan community in the U.S. for new and expanding facilities by Site Selection magazine, the official publication of the Global FDI Association and the Industrial Asset Management Council. The magazine ranked 551 of the nation’s micropolitan areas, cities of 10,000 to 50,000 people which cover at least one county. Rankings are based on qualified projects that have met one of the three criteria: at least $1 MM invested, 20 or more jobs created or 20,000 or more square feet constructed.

“With 23 qualifying investments, Findlay is Site Selection’s top micropolitan for the fifth straight year. It’s a record of dominance that has helped propel the town of 41,000 residents to superstar status,” said Gary Daughters, Senior Editor of Site Selection Magazine.

The Findlay•Hancock County Economic Development Office credits the community stakeholders’ ability to work together as the reason why they have maintained the top micropolitan status. “We talk all the time about the Findlay Formula. Over the past year, we have had communities from Ohio and surrounding states benchmark Findlay. The Findlay Formula is easy to explain but difficult to implement because it requires everyone working together. Fortunately, our community is able to do just that,” said Tim Mayle, Director of Findlay•Hancock County Economic Development.

Over the past five years, the Findlay Formula has resulted in over 3,000 new jobs, 1 million square feet of construction and $1 billion in capital investment. This success has led to community growth. “In 2019 there will be several residential projects constructed to accommodate Findlay’s expansion. Our theme for 2019 is recruitment. As part of that theme, Findlay•Hancock County Economic Development will focus on the attraction of regional residential developers and the recruitment of potential employees,” said Mayle.

A newly released video “Are you Ready for Findlay, Ohio” can be found at introducing potential new employees and investors to America’s Top Micropolitan.
